59000 miles Cadillac CTS rolls at idle either at stop in neutral or at stop in gear
hmm, did a check engine light illuminated? What is the year model of your Cadillac?
Otherwise, your Cadillac’s Transmission, Idle Speed Control System, or brakes could be the culprit.
- Transmission - A faulty or malfunctioned transmission can also contribute to rolling at idle. Especially when the tranny isn’t properly engaging the gears, it may not be able to hold the brakes, causing the car to move even when stationary. It could be because of work-out components, low transmission fluid, or a more significant issue inside your tranny.
- Idle Speed Control system (ISC)- although most modern cars now utilise the electronic throttle body control system for both acceleration control and idle control, you Cadillac may still be using a different control system for IDLE. Now, when your ISC malfunctions, it can lead to an elevated idle speed, causing your Cadillac to roll forward or backward even when in neutral or gear.
- Brakes - Well this is unlikely if you can still stop, however, brake issues can also lead to rolling at idle. If the brakes are not properly adjusted or if there are worn-out brake pads, the car may not have enough stopping power to prevent it from moving forward or backward when stationary. Also make sure the brakes aren’t spongy, because that could be dangerous. The Master Cylinder of the brake system could have a leak in it’s Vacuum.
Those are the possible reasons why your car rolls at idle, you may also check reading DTCs/Fault codes if you have an OBD-II Scanner.
Here’s some tips:
- You can always use your parking brake when parking the car, though do not use it when you are driving fast, you may lose control of your car…
- Avoid leaving the car in gear when parked
